Policy
How Hi-There works for the people and businesses using it.
Your location
When you use Nearby while logged in, we keep the last location you shared, to tell you about events and people near you that match your interests. We keep only the latest one, never a history, nobody else sees it, and it's forgotten after a week.
When you say you're free now, people nearby see how far away you are and the place you name, never your exact spot. It disappears when your time is up or you end it.
You can turn these suggestions off under Preferences → Notifications, forget your location at any time under Preferences → Privacy & safety, and deleting your account deletes your location.
Neighbours: what can be offered
Everyday help between neighbours: repairs, moving, gardening, pets, lessons, computers and the like. Not allowed:
- Medical, nursing or therapy services, and anything else that needs a licence or qualification by law (e.g. electrical or gas work)
- Looking after children or vulnerable adults
- Lending money, loans, investments or anything financial
- Transporting people for money (taxi rides)
- Anything illegal, sexual, or that needs drugs, weapons or alcohol sales
Paid help needs a verified phone number when phone verification is available. Report anything that breaks these rules with the flag.
Businesses: events at your place and fees
People can book a visit at your business, and you accept or decline each booking; either of you can cancel it until it ends.
People can hold an event at your business: from one of your offers, or with Host an event here on your business page. You're asked to confirm each one and see how many people are going. You can decline, or say you can't host it after all, until the event starts.
Fees
Hi-There charges a small fee for each event held at your business, by how many people were going (hosts included):
- Fewer than 3 people: free
- 3 or 4 people: €0.10
- 5 or more people: €0.50
There's no fee when you declined the event, when the host or you cancelled it, when it didn't happen, or when you hold an event at your own business.
Saying whether it happened
After each event you confirmed, tell us under Requests whether it happened. A fee only applies to events you say happened. The host is asked the same question; neither of you sees the other's answer.
We compare the answers. Saying an event didn't happen when it did breaks this policy, and a business that does so may lose the ability to receive events or be removed.
Paying
Fees are added up for each calendar month, by when the events started, and are paid during the following month. Requests shows what you owe so far.
Businesses: plans instead of fees
Instead of paying per event, a business can choose a plan under Plan on its business page. On the days a plan covers there are no per-event fees.
- Monthly: €25 for 30 days in a row.
- Days: €1 a day, or 60 days for €45. Pick the days you want and change days that haven't come yet, within 6 months of buying.
- Pay per event: €1 for every event that happens, whatever its size. Only for reopening paused booking, once any fees owed are paid.
Plans are paid online and start as soon as the payment is received.
The Hi-There team can make a business a super business: it uses Hi-There free for life, with no event fees and no plan needed, and its booking is never paused.
Payments and refunds
Payments are handled by Stripe (cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay) and Paytrail (Finnish banks, MobilePay). Hi-There never sees your card or bank details. Prices include VAT.
Plans and monthly event fees are paid to Hi-There. A booking is paid straight to the business; Hi-There takes no commission.
Refunds for paid bookings
- The business declines or cancels: a full refund.
- You cancel more than 24 hours before the start: a full refund.
- You cancel later than that: no refund.
Refunds go back the way you paid and can take a few days to show.
Cancelling events at businesses
For people holding events
If you cancel more than half of the events you asked businesses to hold and the bookings you made in the last 30 days (counting from 4), you can't hold events at businesses or book them for the next 30 days.
For businesses
A cancellation is late when it's made less than 6 hours before the event or booking starts, or after it started, by either side. If more than 70% of the events and bookings asked of a business in the last 30 days (counting from 4) were cancelled late, its booking is paused: it may mean events took place and were cancelled afterwards to avoid the fee.
To open booking again, the business chooses a plan (Monthly, Days or Pay per event); booking opens once it's paid.
