Meeting safely
Most people on Hi-There just want good company. A few habits keep it that way.
Before you go
- Meet in a public place: a café, a park, a busy street. Don't go to someone's home the first time.
- Tell a friend where you're going, who you're meeting and when you'll be back.
- Look at the host's profile: other events they hosted, their interests, and whether their phone is verified.
- Keep chatting on Hi-There until you're comfortable. You don't have to share your number or address.
When you meet
- Get there and back on your own, so you can leave whenever you want.
- Keep an eye on your drink and belongings, and drink only what you're comfortable with.
- Trust your gut. It's fine to leave if something feels wrong; you don't owe anyone an explanation.
- Never send money or share bank or card details with someone you met here.
Helping at home (Neighbours)
- If you can, meet somewhere public first, or have a quick video call.
- Have someone else at home when a helper comes, or tell a friend who's coming and when.
- Agree what's done and the price before starting, in Messages, so it's written down.
- Never pay in advance or send money to someone you haven't met. Pay when the job's done.
- Helpers: go only where you feel safe, and leave if something feels wrong.
- Look at their profile: a verified phone, and how many neighbours they've helped.
If something goes wrong
- In danger, call the emergency number: 112 in Finland and the rest of the EU.
- Block someone from their profile: they can't message you or join your events any more.
- Report people, events and messages with the flag. Our moderators look at every report.
